Cet ouvrage comprend la Théorie des vents, paru…e à l'origine en 1786, et la Théorie des ondes, publiée pour la première fois avec la précédente en 1796. L'une comme l'autre ont été récompensées par les Académies de Dijon (Vents) et de Copenhague (Ondes). L'auteur, François-Célestin La Coudraye, né vers 1750, était lieutenant de la marine militaire française avant d'émigrer à Copenhague en 1791 : il y demeure 18 ans, enseignant auprès des officiers de marine à l'Académie royale des sciences. Il se rend ensuite à Saint-Petersbourg en 1812, où il meurt en 1815, après avoir tenté un retour en France en 1814. Exemplaire sous couverture d'attente d'origine et non rogné.
