Quarter bound in light green illustrated cover and dark green spine, this 1930 first edition is in very good conditio---bright and tight with no markings. The cover is quite torn and held together by the mylar protection, but retains the original price, $1.00, and the front and back flaps. Sixty-four woodcuts illustrate the clever rhymes, some of which were first published in the New Yorker. Touted as a "perfect gift book of the season"--1930, that is. The cover has a bit of age staining where the loss of dust jacket exposed it, and the corners show some wear.

Soft cover. Condizione: New. Dr. Ussher's memoirs give us invaluable insights into social and political life in the Armenian heartlands of Ottoman Turkey. They also give a detailed account of the siege of Van in 1915, when Armenians resisted the Ottoman authorities' attempts to exterminate them. Ussher and his American hospital lay inside Armenian lines, which were pounded by Ottoman artillery for several weeks. The siege came to an end when the Russians occupied the city. Ussher's memoirs of this period are complemented by Grace Knapp's The Tragedy of Bitlis, and Rafael de Nogales's Four Years Beneath the Crescent.
