It is one of the great natural means of human expression. In teaching students to explore this valuable medium, he offers lucid, insightful coverage of such topics as form in art, proportions, anatomy, rhythm, design, and other essentials. Students will also find a wealth of practical guidance for building a figure in clay, casting in plaster and stone, wood carving and wood sculpture, stone carving and sculpture, handling stone, and more. Hundreds of drawings and photographs enhance the text, ranging from ancient Greek terra-cottas to 20th-century masterpieces by Lachaise, Maillol, Brancusi, Epstein, and other masters. There are also many helpful drawings and diagrams illuminating various steps and stages in the sculpting process. Brimming with the distilled artistic wisdom of a lifetime, this enormously informative work belongs not only at the fingertips of every sculptor or sculpture student but in the library of anyone interested in the artistic process and how an artist's vision becomes reality." ; copy of the award-winning sculptor and painter from Santa Clara , New Mexico artist, Joe Rodriguez Valles (1922-1982) ; 235 black and white illustrations and drawings ; wear to covers ; lemon-yellow endpapers ; spine sunned ; numbers on spine ; pencil marks of a child on flyleaf ; else VG. Copia autografata
unbound. 1 page, 9 x 7 inches, Washington, D.C., May 17, 1946. Written to Duncan L. Groner who was in 1946, Chief Judge of the DC Circuit "My Dear Chief Justice," in full: "I am certainly sorry I will miss your 'silver' anniversary on the bench. Mary and I are going to Texas on the 30th for a few days and will not be here on June 1st. We want to congratulate you but think it would be more fitting to congratulate the people for having had your loyal, devoted and excellent services during those years. With every good wish, we are my dear friend, Sincerely, Tom Clark." Note: On April 22, 1946 Chief Justice Harlan Stone died, having served on the Supreme Court for 23 years. President Truman did not choose an interim Chief Justice but instead nominated Fred M. Vinson to be his Treasury Secretary. Vinson was confirmed on June 22, 1945 even though he had no previous judicial experience. So, who is Tom C. Clark writing to? This letter was written three weeks after Harlan Stone's death and four weeks prior to Fred M. Vinson's nomination. One faint diagonal crease in the upper left corner, but still in very good condition. United States Attorney General and later Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court.
