Er ist ein populäres Wassersport-Gebiet mit mehreren Yachthäfen. Der Prinses-Margriet-Kanal durchfließt den See in Ost-West-Richtung und verbindet ihn mit dem Wasserstraßennetz. Das Bergumer Meer hat einen Umfang von ca. 11 km. Im Sommer wird u.a. auf dem Bergumer Meer das Skûtsjesilen abgehalten, ein mehrtägiger Segelsportwettbewerb mit z.T. über 100 Jahre alten, ursprünglich als Frachtschiffe (Niederländisch: schuitje, Friesisch: Skûtsje) genutzten Segelschiffen. Um den See liegen viele kleinere Orte mit Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie zum Beispiel Jistrum mit seiner um 1230 erbauten Kirche.

Dieses geschah während der Sommermonate in der je nach Region zwischen ca. 70 - 120 Tage währenden Zeitspanne, in der die Kühe die hoch gelegenen Bergwiesen abweideten. Die Tiere waren dann fast ununterbrochen im Freien und fanden besonders saftiges und reichhaltiges Futter mit reichlich Kräutern, was sich in besonderer Qualität und würzigem Geschmack der Bergmilch auswirkte.

Founded by the Hermandad de la Soledad in the seventeenth century, it soon became the premier venue of its time fo…r Spanish comedy. In 1743, it was extensively renovated under the direction of the architect Pedro de Ribera, who transformed it into a modern theater seating 1500 spectators. During the nineteenth century, Ribera's architectural style, and specifically the style embodied by the Teatro de la Cruz, came under intense official criticism; a Royal Order in 1849 officially declared the theater a 'shame of art,' and ordered it to be demolished forthwith. However, the demolition was not immediate; the theater reopened in 1850, only to be closed again between 1852 and 1857. 64 pp. Englisch.

Surveyed by the SGS in the period 1951-57 and named…by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) after Sphagnum, the bog moss which occurs in this valley. Cumberland West Bay is a bay forming the western arm of Cumberland Bay, South Georgia. It is entered southward of Larsen Point, where it is 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and extends 7 miles (11 km) in a southwest direction. This feature was surveyed by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition, 1901 04, who named it West Bay. It was remapped during 1926 29 by DI personnel and renamed West Cumberland Bay. 60 pp. Englisch.
