Illustrated with frontispiece portrait volume 1, frontispiece photograph at Gettysburg in volume 2. Contains 5 of 6 folding maps in volume 1 - MISSING "SKETCH SHOWING THE POSITION OF THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION AT THE BATTLE OF MONTEREY' page 133. No evidence of this map being removed. It is possible the sketch was not bound in this copy. Volume 2 has a folding map opposite page 133 and 24 numbered folding maps bound in the back. Apparent label removal from the front paste downs. Previous owners name and blank bookplate on the right front flyleaves both volumes. Light shelf wear to the cloth bindings. Interior contents clean. Nevins I page 129.
