Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Fourth Edition. A 1984 printing of the fourth edition, revised and expanded with additional poems. The first edition was originally published in 1958, with a second edition following in 1962, and a third edition in 1977 - all editions going through multiple printings. ***Very good in scarlet cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and border to the spine, and gilt border to the front board. The gilt is still beautifully bright. No bumps to the cloth. Corners sharp. Covers clean and unmarked. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. Interior pages clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges clean. Please note that the page block is slightly knocked at the top outer corner which has creased the corner tips of a few pages (please see scans). ***In a very good colour-printed dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £7.95 net. The dustwrapper states '4th Edition Enlarged' at the top of the front flap. Extremities of dustwrapper just slightly rubbed and creased - mainly at the top edge of the front panel near the spine, and bottom edge of the spine. No loss - no chips or tears. A few small marks. The spine of the dustwrapper is only very slightly faded, also slightly affecting the front panel near the spine. Dustwrapper bright. ***190mm x 115mm. 432 pages including an Index of First Lines and an Index of Places and Counties at the back of the book. ***Contents: Introduction by Lord Birkenhead, Mount Zion (1932), Continual Dew (1937), Old Lights for New Chancels (1940), New Bats in Old Belfries (1945), Selected Poems (1948), A Few Late Chrysanthemums (1954), Poems in the Porch (1954), Poems Written Since 1954, High and Low (1966), A Nip in the air (1974). ***'Sir John Betjeman CBE (28 Aug 1906 - 19 May 1984) was an English poet, writer, and broadcaster. He was Poet Laureate from 1972 until his death. He was a founding member of The Victorian Society and a passionate defender of Victorian architecture, helping to save St Pancras railway station from demolition. He began his career as a journalist and ended it as one of the most popular British Poets Laureate and a much-loved figure on British television.' (Wiki) ***A 1984 printing of the 1979 expanded and enlarged fourth edition of the "Collected Poems of John Betjeman", in very good condition, albeit with the above-mentioned faults. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
