First edition, inscribed, of this semi-historical novel based… on original diaries and other original sources found near her family's land claim in Eastern Oregon, describing the discovery of the Blue Bucket gold find somewhere along the route of the tragic wagon train that followed Joe Meek in the Meek Cut-off in 1845. Meek and others tried to return to the spot where the discovery had been made in 1868, but they could not find it. Scarce in dustjacket. De Moss (1882-1955) was the daughter of George & Phoebe Cornwall who had taken the Applegate Trail in 1846 to the Oregon Country, and went onto teach over 26 years in and around Hermiston & Umatilla, OR, as well as write several books and poetry.
