Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. Cowles, Joseph Robert (illustratore). First Edition. 38 Pages. An as new book with no marks or stamps. Interior pages are flawless and coloring areas have not been used. This is a humorous story explaining how a teacher became missing from school, illustrated with delightful cartoon drawings that can be colored by children and adults. This story came about when Miss Gonzalez, one of the teachers in Barbora's kindergarten class in Mountainaire, was absent. The children were very concerned about her. They began the morning as usual with a Pledge of Allegiance, and then sat in a sharing circle. One of the children asked, Where is Miss Gonzales? Is she okay? Barbora said would you like to hear a story about Miss Gonzales? They said yes. Without previous preparation Barbora began the story and she has said it told itself. After she finished there were comments of disbelief and laughter, but the children liked it and were satisfied. Barbora credits local legends of aliens landing near some of the lonely outlying areas of town as her inspiration. After she finished there were comments of disbelief and laughter, but the children liked the story and were satisfied. Later one of the students asked if the story were true and Barbora replied what do you think? The student thought for a moment and said no and Barbora replied I think you're right. The original books were printed as a graduation gift for the class. Roxanne was the model for the drawing of the little girl with the big smile and missing tooth. Hopefully, she has all her teeth by now. Joseph and Barbora Holan Cowles are a husband and wife creative team living in Albuquerque.

Trade Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Pacheco, Rosalinda (illustratore). First Edition First Printing Stated. 51 Pages. A pristine gift condition book. Interior text and hand drawn illustrations are flawless. In the Spanish-speaking world, storytelling, folklore, legends and myths always teach a lesson. These lessons revolve around life skills, acquiring tolerance, and understanding the difference between right and wrong. Children have learned for generations that making correct decisions will affect their entire lives. They also know the environment around them can help or hurt, so they must be aware of any danger. The most famous story known throughout the world in different variations is the story of la Llorona, a crying ghost who mysteriously appears. This ghost is mostly seen near waterways, but can also be seen in other places. The base of the story is that if a child is playing in a ditch or river, la Llorona might appear, take the child with her, and the boy or girl will never be seen again. The moral is, do not play in ditches or rivers, because a sudden rise in the flow of water can hurt you. Rosalía de Aragón brings this story to life in her Spanish/English bilingual book for children, which is part of the Cuentame un Cuento series from Event Horizon Press. This delightful and captivating story tells of three children who have a narrow escape and learn the true meaning of being careful, looking out for others, and following the right paths in life. Wonderful illustrations created by high school student Rosalinda Pacheco beautifully enhance this book children and adults will find a joyful pleasure to read.

Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. First Edition. 75 Pages. Brand new condition. Cowboy Star Roy Rogers, along with his horse Trigger, captivated audiences in his Return of Billy the Kid movies in the 1930's. In 1949, DC's All-Star Comics pitted Billy the Kid against Justice Society of America heroes. Billy faced up to Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Atom, Black Canary, Doctor Mid-Nite, and Wonder Woman. In 1966, Marvel Comics featured Billy the Kid in a showdown with the Two-Gun Kid. Billy has faced vigilantes and vampires, crooked judges and crooked lawmen on film, in books, and comics. He has stood up to ghosts, evil men and mean spirits. In the history, myths, folklore and legends of Western America, the Kid is presented as both outlaw and lawman. In a contradiction, more often than not Billy the Kid fights for justice and the American way. Famed historian Ray John de Aragón explores the mystery behind the legend and unravels fresh insights for us. De Aragón is the first to examine Billy the Kid's Hispanic connection. He also investigates Billy's untimely demise from the gun of Sheriff Pat Garrett. The self-perpetuating image of Billy the Kid lives on, never ceases, and never dies. Dedicated to Lois Gibson, a prominent Houston Police Department sketch artist who is world recognized; to Arizona historian Robert Stahl who is uncovering fascinating new details of Billy the Kid's life and times; and to Joseph and Barb Cowles for their interest and strong support. This book is also dedicated to Aud Darr, former state director of the New Mexico Division of Vocational and Rehabilitation Services, his wife Emma, and all those who for generations have preserved and stimulated the legend of Billy the Kid.
