FIRST EDITION hardcover, sewn-bound in dark red boards, with blind-stamped title on front cover and gilt lettering on spine, is in NEAR FINE condition, and would have been in NEW condition if not for one flaw: a bump to bottom of spine where the…spine and back cover join (see photos). We found this volume at the bottom of a box, in the publisher's (Abbeville) own box, but that box was so stained and worn we did not elect to offer it. When we removed the book, we found it in pristine condition, EXCEPT for the aforementioned bump (looks like the box had been dropped at one time, landing on the bottom corner). The rest of the book is immaculate, having never been read. When looking at he photo of the back dust jacket cover, the odd coloring on the left is just a reflection on the glossy DJ surface. The DJ, featuring a detail from the painting "Proserpine," enclosed in protective mylar (mylar not pictured), is in NEAR FINE condition as well, and the only flaw is the bumped bottom corner. The jacket also has a price sticker from a long-ago seller at top right of the first flap. The book features paintings and drawings of Rossetti. An exquisite volume, the book was the first prolifically-illustrated one on this Pre-Raphaelite artist (265 illustrations, 140 in full color, and beautifully printed), along with some b&w and color photographs. Designed by Renee Khatami, the book was printed and bound in Italy. We have included the customary Abbeville response card at the title-page.
