The book and its dust jacket have usual library markings, library hinge repaired on inside front and back cover, some bumped corners, otherwise in good condition with tight binding, new archival mylar on the dust jacket, some nice black and white photographs and map and 473 pages. (B&W photographs) 20-page booklet (including covers), issued in conjunction with a Mary Pickford film series -- the first such retrospective of her work, I believe -- presented by the American Film Institute, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the M.H. deYoung Memorial Museum, in conjunction with the Mary Pickford Foundation. In addition to the Appreciation, it also includes a one-page essay on Pickford's Biograph shorts, and notes on nine feature films: THE POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL (1917); REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM (1917); STELLA MARIS (1918); DADDY LONG-LEGS (1919); POLLYANNA (1920); LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY (1921); SPARROWS (1926); MY BEST GIRL (1927); and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (1929). There is also a full filmography, although crammed onto two pages and therefore with only minimal credits. Miss Pickford had no greater fan than Robert Cushman (1946-2009), author of the textual material in this booklet, who would go on to a long career as the photograph curator at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Margaret Herrick Library -- which also happens to be the archival repository of the Mary Pickford papers and (thanks in large measure to Mr. Cushman's efforts) home to the most comprehensive collection of Mary Pickford photographs in the world.

Reddish (similar to terra-cotta) hardcover, 10-3/8 inches tall, xii + 216 pp., 9 full page (unpaginated) plates in main text, 28 other illus. in notes at back. Text of Isaiah has passages blocked out in shades of blue, red, and purple (thus, "polychrome") to indicate different compositions or borrowings. This copy in fair or perhaps good condition. Not a former library book, but book does appear somewhat worn. Spine rubbed (appears mottled from loss of color on cloth) and torn at head and tail. Decorative boards slightly warped; back board sl. damp-stained and spotted on free edge. Text in overall good condition with the exception of damp-staining in margins. Small tear (about 1/2 inch) in margins of pp. 18-24. Aside from the sl. reddish stains in margins, text looks very clean and free of marks. Former owner's name inside front cover. Although this copy has a number of defects, it is a good study copy, not a collector's trophy. Fair condition--good reading copy. Photo available on request.
