Stress was given for local action of the drug, and to treat gingivitis and dental plaque. Cetylpyridinium chloride was chosen model drug due to its wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity, low toxicity and high efficacy against gram -ve bacteria. The prepared pastes were subjected for various physicochemical parameters like pH, Spreadability, extrudability, viscosity, drug content, IR studies. Antimicrobial activity prepared of formulation were conducted and compared against pure drug. In-vitro drug release studies were carried out in artificial saliva (7.4 pH) and compared with marketed formulation. Stability studies of selected formulations were also done at temperature (400 C) for the period of three months as per ICH guidelines.The present work is being focused on designing medicated tooth pastes to protect the gums, teeth and oral cavity from periodontal infections. The present study revealed that prepared Toothpaste formulations will be useful in the treatment of gingivitis and dental plaque. 80 pp. Englisch.
