Ebenen und Täler reihen sich aneinander: die Solioter Ebene, die Täler von Saranzi, Kamarzi, Slatiza, Karlowo, Kasanlak, Twardiza und Sliwen. Im Norden von der Stara Planina und im Süden von den Gebirgen Ljulin, Witoscha und Sredna Gora umgrenzt, versinken sie im Frühling und Sommer im Grünen, und die Luft über den Tälern von Karlowo und Kasanlak ist voll von dem Duft der sprichwörtlichen bulgarischen Rosen. Südlich der Witoscha erstreckt sich das Rila-Gebirge mit dem höchsten Gipfel der Balkanhalbinsel, dem Mussa la (2925 m).
