From the introduction: ''The two memoirs of which this book consists are those of Clery, valet de chambre to Louis XVI during his imprisonment in the Temple, and of the Abbe Edgeworth de Firmont, who attended the King during his last hours.'' This Folio edition was first published in 1955, this is a later printing. The binding design of this book is based on that of a copy of Theocritus bound for Marie-Antoinette in 1792 and bearing her arms. BINDING/CONDITION: extensive gilt decorations; the top edge tint is a deep purple color; a Near Fine book, with a Fair slipcase; the slipcase has been repaired with clear book tape. Burgundy endpapers. 8vo (8.5 inches tall). 163 pages.

Book is in better condition than most examples of this age. Neat, clean, well bound pages with very minimal foxing, tanning and thumbing. Small inscriptions and neat labels may be present. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and tanning. Slipcase is scuffed in places with minor shelf wear to edges and corners.
