Mittels eines psychrometrischen Verfahrens werden der theoretische Gesamtflüssigkeitsverlust, der reale Flüssigkeitsverlust und die Differenz zwischen beiden erfasst, um die während der Exspiration in den Luftwegen konservierte Flüssigkeitsmenge zu bestimmen. Zudem können analoge Werte für die theoretisch und real abgegebenen sowie für die konservierten Wärme mengen gewonnen werden. Es zeigt sich, dass ohne zusätzliche Maßnahmen der reale Flüssigkeitsverlust unabhängig vom Beatmungszeitvolumen und Gasstrom etwa ein Drittel des theoretischen spezifischen Flüssigkeitsverlustes beträgt.
