Free of advice, methods and strategies for being successful in love, it does… not offer solutions for problems. What it gives us instead is a reading of love as it actually is. The authors illustrate the fallacies of love by drawing on personal experiences, literary characters and imaginary individuals. They provide examples of ungrounded beliefs in Aesop's Fables, Cinderella and Don Giovanni amongst others, and illustrate love as an inexhaustible source of misperceptions, misunderstandings and misconceptions. By tackling those characteristic and all-too familiar ways in which ungrounded love beliefs arise, the book forces us to question why baseless beliefs are maintained and reinforced, showing us that many love beliefs are built on anything but logic.

Tras años recaudando impuestos por Andalucía para la Armada Invencible, Cervantes, que había conocido el éxito en las tablas a su vuelta de Argel, volvió a la corte para, entre otras cosas, retomar labores como dramaturgo, pero se topó con el muro infranqueable de unos comediantes atent…os a otros intereses y otra estética. De esa imposibilidad de llevar sus comedias a la escena nacieron las Ocho comedias y ocho entremeses nuevos nunca representados, impresas en 1615. Desde entonces hasta hoy, el teatro cervantino ha pasado por ser el hijo menor y aun tonto de quien escribiera el Quijote o el Coloquio de los perros. Pero Cervantes es siempre Cervantes. La construcción dramática de su obras se presenta como una suma de acciones que avanzan en paralelo y que mantienen una correspondencia temática, ideológica o simbólica, para entrecruzarse, entrar y salir de escena y multiplicar el espectáculo. Al tiempo, la materia de sus comedias es la misma que alimenta del resto de su obra, donde los personajes crecen en densidad y parecen sacados de la vida, donde los juegos entre ficción y realidad se multiplican, donde las tramas no acaban mal ni bien y donde, como en la propia existencia, todo queda al final por resolver. Leer este teatro es leer a Cervantes mismo. Con este libro pretendemos ofrecer al lector una imagen clara y sencilla de la dramaturgia cervantina, generalmente marginada por la crítica, analizando la relaciones de Cervantes con el género de los comediantes contemporáneos, así como el carácter reivindicativo de las Ocho comedias. Se aborda asimismo un estudio detenido de Numancia como tragedia, de las comedias compuestas al regreso del cautiverio y de las publicadas en 1615, junto con los ocho entremeses, en los que Cervantes reinventa y dignifica un género menor, convirtiendo la risa en sátira. Por último, se indaga la puesta en escena que conllevan comedias y entremeses, así como la trayectoria de representaciones del teatro cervantino desde el siglo XVI hasta la actualidad y sus recepción críticaa.
