Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Not a book but a boxed set of three, 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl LP discs, Laurie SLP 6000, near-mint vinyl in a "very good" red-and-orange box with small splits to two side panels. The first question likely to occur to you cynics out there is "Did Dion and the Belmonts actually HAVE 60 hits?" Well, no, of course not. The Beatles had 60 hits. Frank Sinatra had 60 hits. Dion and the Belmonts did not have 60 hits. Although, if you'll look closely, you'll notice the clever folks at Laurie Records (meaning basically Allan Sussel et al.) didn't actually INCLUDE the word "hits" in their title for this set. If you count their version of "In the Still of the Night," which climbed to No. 28 in 1960, and "Don't Pity Me," which barely reached the 40th spot in 1958, Dion and the Belmonts had seven hit singles for Laurie over three years, topping out with "Teenager In Love" (No. 5) and "Where Or When" (No. 3), both 1959. Dion DiMucci actually did better after he split from the Belmonts, scoring six hits in 1961 and 1962, supposedly as a solo act (actually backed by the Del-Satins, uncredited), including "The Wanderer" (No. 2) and "Runaround Sue" (No. 1.) All 13 of those hits seem to be here. What you won't find here are Dion's hits from 1963 and later -- including "Ruby Baby" and "Donna the Prima Donna" -- since Dion moved to Columbia Records in 1963 (when creepy A&R man Mitch Miller FINALLY lost the ability to keep rock artists off the Columbia roster), while this set features only what Laurie Records could find in the vault (at a guess, we'd say EVERYTHING Laurie Records could find in the vault) pertaining to the trio from the Bronx. Dion and the Belmonts cover "Dream Lover." Dion and the Belmonts cover "Take Good Care of My Baby." Dion and the Belmonts cover "Save the Last Dance for Me." Dion and the Belmonts cover "P.S. I Love You." (Yes, really.) If you've dreamed of bingeing on that street-corner do-wop sound of Dion DiMucci (with and without his Belmonts), . . . here you go. Now reduced from $12.50.

Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm, near-mint vinyl disc, Laurie Mastersound 2002 (the 1962 reissue, almost certainly mono) in a very-good cardboard jacket with only the most minor ringwear to reflective gold surface, but split open across the top. The foursome offer Pomus & Shuman's "A Teenager In Love" (of course), "I Wonder Why," "No One Knows," "Don't Pity Me," and, interestingly enough, Rodgers & Hart's "Where Or When." How long did it take those session producers to figure out the kids wanted ROCK 'N ROLL? (Actually, it took till exactly 1963-64, when American "talent developers" were shocked to see George Martin and the Beatles selling millions after refusing to fill their albums with covers of "Autumn Leaves" and "Red Sails in the Sunset.") Jacket notes by Dick Clark. Catalogs $150; here reduced from $32.
