Full-Leather. Condizione: Very Good. Complete set of the First Edition of the famous "Benedictine Edition', published in Paris 1718-1738. "This is the best edition, and the result of about twenty years of the patient labor of Montfaucon (d. Dec. 21, 1741, 86 years old), and several assistants of the brotherhood of St. Maur. More than three hundred mss. were made use of, but the eight principal mss., as Field has shown, were not very carefully collated. Montfaucon, who at the date of the completion of his edition was 83 years old, prepared valuable prefaces to every treatise and set of homilies, arranged the works in chronological order, and added in vol. XIII. learned dissertations on the life, doctrine, discipline and heresies of the age of Chrysostom." Large format folio volumes approx. 10 x 16.5 inches, bound in thick full leather boards of the period, spines in 7 compartments with extra gilt and 2 spine labels; complete 13 volume set; apparently rebacked to style sometime late 18th century; internally clean and text blocks square and tight, unmarked with minimal age toning; rubs and bumps to all edges and corners, covers detached in Vol. XII, other joints tight; very heavy set probably over 100 pounds, no International shipping, upcharge for expedited domestic delivery.
