Prima edizione
First edition. Two volumes. The first one, published by Rutgers in 1958, is the first collection to include all 16 of the fictional pieces written by Faulkner for the Times-Picayune in 1925. Also includes a compilation of short sketches he wrote during the same period for the New Orleans literary magazine, The Double Dealer (under the title "New Orleans"). The second volume, published by Random House, is copyrighted 1958 but was actually published in 1968. It includes a new preface by Collins, updates his original introduction, makes corrections "in light of new evidence," and adds, as an appendix, an essay by Faulkner on his friend Sherwood Anderson published during the same period in the Dallas "Morning News." Both books are fine in very good or better dust jackets. The first one has the ownership signature of noted Mark Twain expert "Arthur L. Scott / Urbana 1958" on front endpaper and his bookplate on front pastedown partially obscured by the dust jacket flap. Scott, who was a professor of literature at the University of Illinois, also wrote literary criticism on Faulkner's work.
