1/55. 17pp. Octavo [23 cm] Blue printed wrappers. Near fine. Signed by Saunders on the limitation page. Collector's Edition Keepsake for volume 15 of the Kingdom of the West series, 'Dale Morgan on the Mormons Collected Works. Part 2, 1949-1970.' Dale L. Morgan (1914 - 1971), was an American historian, accomplished researcher, biographer, editor, and critic. He specialized in material on Utah history, Mormon history, the American fur trade, and overland trails. His work is known both for its comprehensive research and accuracy and for the fluid imagery of his prose. The Kingdom in the West Series, subtitled 'The Mormons and the American Frontier,' is an award-winning series begun in 1997 that explored the story of the Latter-day Saints and their part in the greater history of the Western Frontier. The history of the Mormons in the American West is so sweeping it is easy to ignore episodes that, for one reason or another, found no place in the traditional annals of the region. This series explored the story of the Mormon people and their part in the greater history of the Western Frontier. Primary source documents, many of them previously unpublished, comprise this series' core. Signed.…

This item is the last part of either a five-volume off print or variant issue of the 'The American Guide: A Source Book and Complete Travel Guide for the United States.' Each volume printed two sections of the 'Guide' and was issued as an independent volume with a distinct title page and separate index, but with consecutive pagination. Saunders 21. Dale L. Lakeside Classics number 65. 395pp. Duodecimo [17.5 cm] Blue cloth with the title gilt stamped on the spine. Glassine jacket present. Near fine. The Klondike was the last of the great nineteenth-century gold rushes, a succession of frenzies that had begun in California. Perhaps the best-known literary work about this era was Jack London's 'Call of the Wild,' but the first historical narrative by a participant in those hearty years was this work. It was written from memory, not a contemporary source, and Morgan points out that Lynch's 'facts' are sometimes not necessarily so. Saunders 59.…

First Edition. 608pp. Quarto [28 cm] Gray cloth with the title gilt on the backstrip in a red panel. Very good/Near fine. Jacket price clipped. Contains the Morgan essay 'Opening of the West: Explorers and Mountain Men.' This book is a popular history, employing historical essays to outline major western events and figures to an America familiar with the interpretations of the past presented by television westerns and Roy Rogers. "What they found there and what they did there," wrote the editor in the Introduction, "is a story as spectacular as any that has come out of the great ages of history." The illustrations are drawn heavily from 19th century eastern periodicals that tended to mythologize western life and its riches and lend a Hollywood flavor to the work. Saunders 43.…
