Presentation copy inscribed to the ffep in pencil : "To our friend M. L. Pipes from Vera Simpson and W. T. Burney. " Judge Martin L . PIpes was a prominent Oregon attorney, a justice on…the Oregon Supreme Court, and a patron of literature. Pipes moved to Oregon around the same time as Simpson. Vera Simpson was a family member of Simpson, probably his daughter, Zilla Vera. Burney was a writer who wrote the preface.
