Decorated end papers with chips on the free end papers. Tender hinges, including a starter in the rear hinge. Monotint (green or blue) border illustration on all text pages. Non-tissue stub between the frontispiece portrait of John Milton and the title page. Penned notes on the verso of the last blank leaf. Bit of staining in the bottom corner/margin of the last few pages. The contents (xvi + 221 + [5] pp. + illustrations) otherwise appear clean, complete and securely bound. All gilt edges, albeit with some dullness. Tooled burgundy leather with a gilt cursive 'Milton' on the upper board. The spine is faded, slanted, and has rubbed edges, including a half-inch tear on the rear spine edge. Board edges are also somewhat rubbed and there is a touch of bowing (from the middle) on the upper board.
