Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a wide-ranging examination of the theory of ionization by collision, a central tenet in our understanding of how electrical currents flow through gases. In this work, the author extends the theory into new domains and applies it to a broad range of gases and gas mixtures. Historically, the theory of ionization by collision has been verified at low gas pressures, but the author shows that it also holds true at higher pressures. This breakthrough enables the exploration of ionization behavior in conditions more typical of real-world applications. Through a series of meticulously designed experiments, the author determines the minimum ionizing energy required for several gases, including hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and air, and establishes a direct proportionality between the minimum ionizing field strength and the pressure of the gas. The book culminates in the derivation of a general formula that can be used to calculate the electrical properties of any mixture of gases based on the properties of the individual gases. This work provides valuable insights into the behavior of ionized gases, expands the theory of ionization by collision, and establishes a foundation for further research in the field of electrical conduction in gases. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
