The occasion was the laying of the cornerstone of the first building, Pioneer Hall, of the Pioneer Society in California. There are three main features in this pamphlet in addition to the proceedings of the events, an oration by Willard B. Farwell, a poem by Eliza A. Pittsinger, and an address by E. H. Washburn. Farwell pays tribute to California pioneers and the state of California but also laments the ongoing American Civil War and denounces the Confederacy and its aim to destroy the Union. Pittsinger also pays tribute to California pioneers through her poem. Washburn originally gave his address on September 9, 1862 on the 12th anniversary of California's admission as a state in the Union. He, too, laments the catastrophe of the ongoing Civil War. Within his address, Washburn lays out the three main goals of the Pioneer Society which are to foster social connections between California pioneers, collect and preserve historical materials about early California history and the pioneers, and to honor California pioneers of the past and present.…

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the author's impassioned examination of Jesuit involvement in the United States. The work contains a series of poems that articulate the author's concerns about the order's influence on American institutions and culture. The author argues that the Jesuits are a sinister force that seeks to undermine American values and institutions. Expressing worry, the author suggests the Jesuits' presence in the country is an existential threat to the American way of life. The book's central theme is the alleged threat posed by Jesuit infiltration into American society. However, the author's ideas are delivered in a highly charged, emotive manner. The author's use of inflammatory language and the apparent lack of primary source evidence may make the book appealing to those who share the author's views, but may be off-putting to those seeking a more nuanced and scholarly approach to the topic. Despite this, the book offers a unique perspective on a topic of historical and contemporary relevance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
