Henry Miers Elliot, British civil servant and historian was employed in Bengal by the East India Company, producing several important papers and a couple of books in the process, these being edited for general publication after his death in his mid-forties in 1853. This particular volume goes into detail on the castes, tribes, customs, rites and superstitions, much of the book being concerned particularly with the NW provinces.…
