Hardback. Condizione: New. Volume VII of The Oxford Edition of the Sermons of John Donne gathers sermons preached by Donne at different venues for the related liturgical occasions of marriages, christenings, and the churching of women after childbirth. The volume contains ten sermons, seven of them undated and, in the case of the christening sermons, also for parties unknown; one of the two churching sermons survives only in an authorially revised state as two separate -- but obviously coeval -- sermons.Longfellow and McCullough establish that these sermons were preached across almost the whole of Donne's preaching career, from among his earliest (ca. 1615-16) to 1627, four years before his death. In each case an authoritative text has been established by freshly collating multiple copies of the seventeenth-century print editions, as well as multiple manuscript copies which predate the print witnesses. For the first time, these sermons appear with full critical apparatus. The Introduction provides the first dedicated account of the place of sermons in the social, liturgical, and theological contexts of these occasions in post-Reformation England. A headnote to each sermon describes its textual state and supplies local historical, social, and intellectual context, and suggestions for further reading. Extensive commentaries document Donne's use of sources (both acknowledged and unacknowledged), translate passages in foreign languages, and gloss important and unfamiliar words. Although largely neglected by previous scholarship, these sermons emerge here as unique (the only known sermons for churchings), challenging (for views on women and marriage more conservative than many of Donne's contemporaries'), and as evidence of Donne's Calvinist sacramental theology and his anti-Catholicism. They are also fine examples of Donne's skill in crafting emotionally compelling sermons suited to the unique demands of both occasion and auditory.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Love: How Scars Can Heal is a powerful and intimate testimony of how the love of Christ can bring restoration, wholeness, and healing in the face of life's deepest wounds. More than a memoir-it is a journey of transformation, faith, and discovery. With raw honesty and spiritual depth, the author opens up about their personal struggles, internal battles, and emotional pain-inviting readers into the darkest seasons of their life. Yet, through every scar, there is a thread of divine love woven throughout, revealing that no trauma is too deep, no heart too broken, and no past too messy for God to redeem. This book is not written from a place of perfection but from the perspective of someone still healing, still learning, and still growing. The pages are filled with scriptures, reflections, and affirmations that point to Jesus as the ultimate healer and the only source of true freedom. It acknowledges the reality of emotional and physical wounds while declaring the power of God's love to transform them into testimonies of grace.Whether you are currently walking through your own healing process, supporting someone you love, or simply searching for peace and clarity, Love: How Scars Can Heal offers hope. It's a gentle reminder that your story matters-and sharing it may be the very key to someone else's breakthrough. This book is for the one. The one who feels unseen. The one who feels broken. The one who doesn't yet believe they can be whole again. The author hopes that, through this offering, even just one life is changed by the truth that God's love heals.…
