Illustrated with maps and photographs. xii + 285 pages. This handsomely produced volume provides a day-by-day chronicle and point-by-point guide to Custer's 1874 Black Hills Expedition route. The maps, directions and GPS readings lead you to the campsites and down the trail. When there's a mention of a spring or a stream, a valley or a rock formation, the authors show exactly where it is. The second section of the book shows side-by-side comparisons of the photographs of William H. Illingworth, who accompanied Custer, with present-day photographs taken by Paul Horsted.
