Illustrated paper label on the front board of each volume. Some moisture damage, with waviness to each textblock and slight warping to boards. Sporadic rubbing to corners. Both encased in publisher's clamshell which is bound in black cloth and ornamented with silkscreened paper. Clamshell is Good only - heavily sunned and a bit scuffed, with underlying boards exposed in spots. Number 2664 in a limited edition of 5,000 copies. Profusely illustrated with full color, tipped-in plates.

Borbottoni wrote illustrated and published this book to document the buildings which he could compose from the ruined streets and squares which were still extant in the 1890s. He based his paintings 'on certain ancient records he owned as well as studies covering many years. To these was added recent material on the Old Market and the Ghetto'. He wanted to reconstruct the appearance of the city before the changes which had begun at the turn of the century when the Grand Duchy stil existed. English & Italian text throughout.
