New Testament angels and prophets; appendix I. Latterday dissociation cults; appendix II. The background of Moses; index. From the preface: `This book is not another addition to the hundreds of tons of existing biblical scholarship. It is an attempt to kindle some illumination by non-scholastic methods. Three such methods are used. The first is the application of hypothesis. This is an accepted part of scientific method and is often able to cause disordered masses of recorded fact to fall into comprehensible order. The second method is the demonstration of identity in kind between certain observable facts of today and certain matter recorded as fact in the biblical narratives. In a working life of some thirty-five years spent for the most part in West African villages as an ethnographer & a clinical psychiatrist , I have become thoroughly familiar not only with certain mental phenomena seldom seen in Europe (such as `spirit possession') but also with some almost universal primitive customs (such as the control of land by the priestly agents of land-owning deities). On re-reading the biblical narratives, I am now able to recognize many an item of behaviour there recorded as something which I myself have seen. A third method is used in reaching the conclusions regarding the nature of angels & their societies. This is the simple process of collecting together all the scattered information provided by many narratives and examining is as a whole.'. 1st edition. Binding is Hardback.
