Beginning with the book the covers are spotless. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. There is a white ISBN sticker on the back. The book is v…ery solidly bound. Opening the book, the pages are very clean, there's no soiling, no markings, no writing/underlining, no creasing. Moving on to the Un-Clipped dust jacket, again there is no soiling, and really there is only one imperfection to call out. You can see in the third photo that there is a little crease at the top of the spine. The DJ will be fitted with a protective cover after the photographs are scanned. This is a First edition with a number line to 1. So here's what makes this book particularly special. It is inscribed by the author to his wife 'To Ella, with love always, Lou'. The book came from Dr. Fierman's library. As the title informs, Louis Fierman was a psychotherapist. He was also a longtime Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University. Quoting a little bit from his obituary "Dr. Fierman was the foremost authority on the work of Hellmuth Kaiser, who pioneered the field of nondirective psychotherapy. Dr. Fierman edited and published a collection of Kaiser's works, Effective Psychotherapy. He was the author of several other books, including the latest, Shrink: On Becoming a Psychotherapist, as well as countless professional articles. Those works are on permanent display as part of the Louis B. Fierman and Hellmuth Kaiser Archives, opened at the Allen Memorial Library at Case Western Reserve Medical School in April 2011. While serving as the medical director for Elmcrest Psychiatric Institute, Dr. Fierman pioneered a community-oriented approach to in-patient treatment. The hospital was the first to prohibit tobacco use on the grounds and provided patients with opportunities to engage in art, music and horticulture therapy. Dr. Fierman put together a team of therapists, architects and designers to create a truly 'therapeutic environment.' In connection with his innovative work, he was a frequent speaker on Connecticut television and radio programs on topics connected with mental health. Dr. Fierman was also President of the Connecticut Psychiatric Society, Chief of the Psychiatric Service at the West Haven Veterans' Administration Medical Center, a member of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals." His wife of 65 years, Dr. Ella Yensen Fierman, was a clinical psychologist. Inscribed by Author(s).
