Top rear outer corner is bumped extending into the volume for 45 pages, a clean copy in very good condition.

"The New Haven men," Mr. Cheney wrote, "are particularly exercised by Professor Davis' efforts to unionize the non-union factories and employees in New Haven." Unwilling that the Divinity School should "become the theatre of a debate on the evils of unionism and the advantages of the open shop," Mr. Cheney had for some time "resisted the appeal of friends to do something to counteract the activities in the labor world of Professor Davis. If, however, our professors are to enter the controversial field of labor and capital outside of classes, I do not see how we can resist the pressure for an exposition of at least the other side."' (p. 44 f.) -- Other issues were his book `Capitalism and its culture', his views on recognition of the Soviet Union, wages paid to janitors and dining hall staff, pressure from Hamilton Fish, chairman of the House Committee Investigating Communist Activity in the United States, and the prominence of six members of Yale Corporation who were also affiliates with Rockefeller, Morgan and Kuhn, Loeb corporations.
