This led in the end to further heavy impositions by the Soviet. And yet it has been evident to the whole world that the treatment accorded to Finland by her over bearing neighbour has been very different from that meted out to the other border countries that had the misfortune to be "liberated" by the Red Army. Though Finland would appear to be in fact at the mercy of Russia, yet there has not only been no attempt by Stalin to restore the puppet Soviet administration that suffered such ignominious eclipse in 1940, but there has been less interference in the internal affairs of Finland than of any other border country. Stalin learnt his lesson in 1940. His expansion since the war has taken the direction of countries with less mettle, less staunch heroism, easier and more pliant prey.
