Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. First and only printing. Large 4to. Red cloth with arms of University of Chicago on front board in gilt. Good copy, slight wear to corners, ring mark on front cover. Ownership signature on front free endpaper of George S. Leisure, a member of the Class of 1914, who went on to a successful law career. First book appearance of the future Paris correspondent for the New Yorker, who provided to the magazine her famous Letters from Paris and Letters from London for many years. Contains two songs with lyrics credited to Janet Flanner, "To Chicago," with her name given as Janet Tyler Flanner, and "University Marching Song," where her name is given as usual. Flanner entered the University of Chicago in 1912 and, despite the effusion of school spirit evidenced by these songs, left without graduating in 1914, the year this volume was published. Volume opens with sundry songs, some of which are tributes to schools in the same athletic conference such as Ohio State and the University of Illinois. One song is devoted to praising John D. Rockefeller, who bankrolled the University. So far as we know, her contributions to this volume have never been mentioned in the rare book trade or in scholarship.
