Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. This VG- book has "Federal" on the spine but "Street & Smith" on the title page; I have no idea how common that situation is. The exterior is square, with signs of wear. Specifically, bumped corners and head and heel of the spine, all with slight fabric damage; toning of the spine; and a general over-all light bit of soiling. Nothing serious, just an accumulation of issues. The interior has the FFEP neatly and cleanly removed and the half-title page is heavily browned(see photo); the rear end pages are lightly browned. Otherwise, the interior is clean and free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and any page damage; pages are very flexible and seem to be free of toning. A part of an interesting series by a young Sinclair Lewis, before "The Jungle" was written.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. This VG- book published by McKay is square, with signs of age and wear. Specifically, bumped head and heel of the spine, toning and light staining of the spine, and a stained lower front corner; but the two splotches of gilt in the sky of the front panel illustration are intact and rather impressive. The interior has a very neat calligraphic inscription on the FFEP (see photo). Other than that, the interior is clean and free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and any page damage; pages are very lightly tone but very flexible. A part of an interesting series by a young Sinclair Lewis, before "The Jungle" was written.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. This VG- book has "Federal" on the spine but "Street & Smith" on the title page; I have no idea how common that situation is. The exterior is square, with signs of heavy wear. Specifically, bumped corners and head and heel of the spine, with small fabric tears; toning of the spine such that the publisher's name is hard to read; and a general over-all light bit of tanning probably made visually worse than it really is because of the light colored binding. Nothing critical, but an accumulation of issues. Both the front and rear end pages are lightly browned. Otherwise, the interior is clean and free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and any page damage; pages have light toning but are very flexible. A part of an interesting series by a young Sinclair Lewis, before "The Jungle" was written.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Book is very good minus: it is completely intact, hinges tight, interior unmarked. Tiny tears in fabric in top rear corner & lower front corner, spine sunned (see photo), FFEP has long-ago fold that has weakened the paper at that point, both front and rear panels show moderate wear. Note on front panel illustration: above sailor's head and at top of pole (on left) are intact splotches of gold.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Book is in very good condition: binding firm, corners not bumped, no dings on edges, head and heel of spine lightly creased, spine slightly darkened; both paste downs and free end pages have modest but noticeable darkening where jacket flaps would have been. Interior clean. One oddity: the spine says Federal Book Co. but the title and copyright pages say "Street & Smith". Boards are actually a medium green, not the color that my camera produced. Feel free to ask for more photos. Thank you for your consideration.

Covers very well worn, heavily soiled, stained, corners bumped & worn, spine darkened & tips worn & bumped, inner hinges cracked, frontis detached & chipped, loose signatures & pages (some very), text block cracked, soiled, smudged, stained, offsetting. Upton Sinclair wrote half-dime novels under two pseudonyms, Fitch and Garrison. He used Ensign Clark Fitch for the Clif Faraday stories (also known as the Annapolis series) written in 1897-98 under three different series titles: Army and Navy Weekly, Half Holiday and True Blue. This character also appeared in novelettes for the Columbia Library series, parts of which were republished with various changes in at least seven other series including David McKay's "The Boys' Own Library." This title is part of the McKay series. There were three publishers for the Fitch titles: Street & Smith, Federal Book Co (a subsidiary of Street & Smith) and David McKay. There were five books in the Fitch/Annapolis series, all published in 1903. Very Scarce. (Sources: Gottesman. Upton Sinclair An Annotated Checklist; U. of S. Florida.
