Wyat 1701 3rd D'Andilly edition hardback. Very handsome full leather panelled binding. 5 raised bands with later gilt title label. Minor professional restoration to corners. Blind-embossed decoration. A few scuffs. Original endpapers. Front ep bears signature of Pierce Court 1701. Folio 34cm x 22cm. First title page printed in red and black. Second title page "The Lamentable and Tragical History of the Wars dated 1700. This edition contains a two page fold out map of the Holy Land at 26-27, Full page plate of the First Temple (82), Ark with Cherubs (83), 4 cuts between 84-86, a further cut at 208 and the frontispiece of the Original Author. Pagination [12], 516, 515-543, [7], 557-642, 657-854, Table of Chapters [34]. Pagination is identical to the 1693 edition with same pagination errors. The National Library of Scotland's copy runs [12], 854 with pagination errors as below, [34] which corresponds with this copy (thanks SW). The National Library of Scotland agree this to be a pagination error. Whiston's translation (Thomas Nelson, 1849) also corresponds with this copy where the Antiquities of the Jews ends, there is then a four page preface (translation concurs), that leads into Book I of the War of the Jews. On this basis it would seem that there may not have been any missing leaves between 543 and 557. Similarly, it would seem that there is nothing lacking between 642 and 657. Page 642 concludes with chapter XXVIII. Page 657 is the beginning of the Third Book of the Wars of the Jews. Overall a very handsome book. Binding is firm and square. Pages are very clean and bright throughout with just the very occasional handling mark. Very good indeed. Please note over 3.5 kg packed. Secure postage will be significantly more than default quote depending on destination. EU buyers please consider import duty before purchase.
