Soft cover. Condizione: Good. (Japan and China) (Thomas W. Lamont.) L'Amerique, la Chine, et les Dictateurs, le Suicide du Japon. (Detroit) 1943. 9"x6", 21pp. Signed "R.V." at the end of the last paragraph. Only FOUR copies located in WorldCat (none in the U.S.) Original wrappers, with several small stamps on cover and first page of text. Provenance: Library of Congress. GOOD copy. Looks to me like a review of the recent militaristic history of Japan going back to the Russo-Japanese War, with the overall sensation of negative interpretations of Japanese actions against China and the ultimate failure of Japan. [++] "Lamont [former chair JP Morgan] later undertook a semiofficial mission to Japan in 1920 to protect American financial issues in Asia. However, he did not aggressively challenge Japanese efforts to build a sphere of influence in Manchuria; indeed, he supported Japan's non-militaristic politics until late into the 1930s.Ron Chernow won the National Book Award for his book The House of Morgan in which he claimed that Lamont had authored the infamous Japanese response to deceive the world about the Mukden incident, which was used as a pretext for Japan's invasion of Manchuria. That defied the expressed position of US government and the League of Nations that Japan, not China, was the aggressor."--Wikipedia.…

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. The Life-Boat Service and the War, a Record of Gallantry and Endurance. 1940. 9.25"x6.25", xxxixpp ads, 39pp text, with lots of photos. Original wrappers. Provenance: Library of Congress, with a few of their rubber stamps here and there. The text block is separated from the covers, though I think a little glue would change that. [++] Wonderful publication on the actions and bravery of the Life-Boat Service and the countless acts of heroism these people performed. The subtitle to this work is accurate. [++] Unexpectedly there are only FOUR copies of this work found in WorldCat: Harvard, NYPL, British Library, and Trinity (Dublin). All of course top-rate. Evidently a scarce work. Even when searching Google under the full title there are almost no hits.…

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. The Menace of Nazi Propaganda. Woburn Press, London, (1938), 8"x5", 15 leaves, printed on one side only. Stapled. Front leaf detached. Provenance: given by the Board of Deputies of British Jews (April 29, 1939) to the Library of Congress. 10Mm "LC" perforated at first sheet bottom, plus a rubber stamp from the LC (discard). Also a couple of pencil marks on the first page. WorldCat locates only four copies (one at US National Holocaust) and the three others overseas (London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt). Interesting review and statement on the vast German anti-Semitic campaign 1933-1938. (See pics). [++] "The Board of Deputies of British Jews, commonly referred to as the Board of Deputies, is the largest and second oldest Jewish communal organisation in the United Kingdom, after the Initiation Society which was founded in 1745. Established in 1760 by a group of Sephardic Jews, the board presents itself as a forum for the views of most organisations within the British Jewish community, liaising with the British government on that basis. Notably, while Lord Rothschild was President of the Board of Deputies, the Balfour Declaration was addressed to him and eventually led to the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine. It is affiliated to the World Jewish Congress and the European Jewish Congress.".…

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Noise Survey and Repair Procedures for Submarine Noise Reduction. This is publication NavShips 250-371, published by the Department of the Navy Bureau of Ships in April 1951. It is 11x8", offset printed, punch bound, and secured with aluminum screws in a decorated USN binding. The publication is only 80 pages long, and starts at the very beginning ("What is sound?") and works it way through the basics in 14pp or so, when we get to "machinery noise" and what can be done about it, as with "Noise Reduction with Isolation Mounts" on pg 17, when things begin to get complicated. Also: there is no record of the book being found in library holdings in WorldCat/OCLC. This is an excellent copy, nearly without blemish. [++] Only four copies located in libraries worldwide: U.S. Naval Academy, US Navy Department Library, SUGPO, and UNM Main. ++NOTE++ There is no discoloration on the blue cloth binding--the cloth just kept catching the light and so came this washed out look. The book in-peron is very sharp and a deep blue.…
