WWII has ended and a British bride comes to America to find out why her American GI husband hasn't responded to her letters. A husband and wife detective team, John and Suzy Marshall, are hired to investigate. They find the young man still recovering from wounds and his mother saying the marriage should be annulled. This seems like a fairly easily mystery to figure out, until a pair of men essentially kidnap John to deliver an ultimatum: drop the case. Things spiral quickly into mayhem with violence, money, sensational photographs, gangsters, and crooked cops. 192 pages.
