A Struwwelpeter for girls who refuse to pull up their stockings and stop yawning in public. In verse, loosely built on the model of Heinrich Hoffmann's great and terrible classic for wicked German children, this didactic picture book tortures its chronically sleepy heroine with kobolds at night, beatings by day, and dire threats from Knecht Ruprecht at all hours, but leaves her alive to pray for God's mercy in the end. A beautiful copy, barely touched. 8.5'' x 6.5''. Later edition ("Völlig ungekürzte Volksausgabe"). Original pictorial cardstock wrappers. Profusely illustrated in color throughout. Ownership inscription to front wrapper verso: "Vienna Summer 1936". Slight edgewear, touch of bowing to fore-edge. Pages lightly and uniformly toned.
