Arnold Fredericks is a pseudonym of Frederic Arnold Kummer. His characters, Richard and Grace Duvall, become known as "The Honeymoon Detectives" and a series of books is written about them, of which this is the first. Published by W. J. Watt & Company, New York, 1912. Frontispiece and four additional illustrations by Will Grefe. First edition. Very good book in very good minus dust jacket. Dark red cloth covered boards with black graphics surrounding the title and author on front board panel and black-stamped lettering on the spine. Boards are scuffed and lightly soiled in general. Edges at head and tail of board spine are sunned and rubbed; 1/2" closed vertical tear from the center at head of spine; several small vertical tears of 1/8" or less at tail of spine. Lower edges of front and back boards are rubbed through. External page edges are age- and dust-toned and with light foxing. Shadow transfers on end papers. Erasure marks and a 2 1/2" diagonal crease at the upper right corner of FFEP. Text pages are age-toned else clean. Text block is solid. Dust jacket is soiled and scuffed overall, more apparent against white background of back panel. Loss across head of jacket spine and adjacent upper edges of 3" by up to 3/8"; front corner at head of jacket spine has a 2 1/2" open and closed vertical tear along the front spine fold, as well as several adjacent diagonal creases to the upper spine and front panel edges. All folds are creased and scuffed and with several rub throughs. Lower right corner on front panel has a 1 1/2" open tear from the lower fore-edge corner. Fore-edge corners are rubbed and loss of up to 1/4". Lower edge of front panel has a 5/8" open and closed pyramid-shaped tear next to the front corner at tail of spine. Upper and lower edges are softened in general and with several additional chips, rubs, and small vertical tears and shallow horizontal creasing. Inside flap corners are not clipped.
