No store stamps.--- HERE'S THE FIRST FEW SENTENCES --- --- It seemed like the dead of night when his mam started in to calling him up the ladder. She had a powerful hard time a-rousing him. "Syke," she kept a-calling up, "you, Syke. Git up now, son. Hit's most sun-up." Twice at least he answered without stirring. But at last he hauled himself up and padded over to the open patch of firelight in the floor and reached down to take the kettle she came halfway up the ladder to hand him.
