In DAyton, Ohio, war es dann ein Mann namens Arthur Lammers, der an Edgar Cayce's Arbeiten interessiert war und erhebliche Studien der Philosophie und den vergleichenden Religionswissenschaften gewidmet hatte. Er schlug vor, dass einige nicht routinemäßige Fragen an den "schlafenden" (d. h. den in Trance befindlichen) Edgar Cayce gestellt werden sollten. Die dabei gegebenen Antworten waren dann äußerst überraschend für die Edgar Cayce Anhänger und ein Teilbereich diente als Grundlage für eine neue Art der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Hellsehen. Edgar Cayce sprach dabei von einem "Life Reading" (das heißt, es war dies eine mediale Sitzung, über das Gesamtleben der Seele - oft durch mehrere Inkarnationen). Eine ausführliche Geschichte dieser Vorkommnisse wird in der Biografie "There is a river" vom Thomas Sugrue wiedergegeben. Eine weitere Darstellung ist in der spirituellen Biografie von Harmon H. Bro über E. Cayce enthalten.
