/Wm. Hofman, illustrator. (illustratore). CONDITION: Near Fine in Good Plus jacket; very edgeworn jacket; unclipped 2.75. Juvenile hardback. A malicious rumor spread by a white outlaw caused the local Ute band to threaten Ward and his father's new farm. Ward's friendship with Chief Ouray and a boy named Antelope partially averted the Ute uprising. Perhaps a fictional incident, but realistic. Chief Ouray, (1833-1880) a remarkable diplomatic leader, tried relentlessly to ease the transition as white settlers moved into Ute territory in Colorado, but ultimately failed. ABE Heritage Seller since 1996; conservative AB condition grading. We ship all our books in cardboard protection. International shipping. /Wm. Hofman, illustrator.
