Pages are mildly toned, there is a pink mark on the bottom page edge, and there is a newspaper clipping attached to the front end page. The boards are in fair to good minus condition with stains and edge wear. The binding is tight and square.

This is the life story of the first woman tiger trainer. She worked with the big cats from 1911 well into the 1960s, was mauled several times and lived a life considered 'wild' and 'eccentric'. She was married four or five times, worked for the main circuses at various times. A pioneer liberated woman. Jacket is chipped at spine extremities with nicks and some rubbing.

Mabel Stark (1889-1968) was a well-known tiger trainer who was orphaned at age 17 and in her early 20's began working with the Al G. Barnes Circus. In a field dominated by men, she soon began working with the tigers and lions and went on to become one of the most celebrated animal training circus acts (she was mauled by the big cats many times during her career). Her autobiography was "written with Gertruce Orr." Original publisher's orange cloth covers with black spine and cover lettering and a black illustration of a tiger. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The dust jacket has marginal chips and tears yet is still quite striking. The dust jacket is now in a protective, removable, acetate cover. ; B&W Photographs; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 248 pages.
