Mabel Stark (1889-1968) was a well-known tiger trainer who was orphaned at age 17 and in her early 20's began working with the Al G. Barnes Circus. In a field dominated by men, she soon began working with the tigers and lions and went on to become one of the most celebrated animal training circus acts (she was mauled by the big cats many times during her career). Her autobiography was "written with Gertruce Orr." Original publisher's orange cloth covers with black spine and cover lettering and a black illustration of a tiger. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The dust jacket has marginal chips and tears yet is still quite striking. The dust jacket is now in a protective, removable, acetate cover. ; B&W Photographs; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 248 pages.
