A wonderful type specimen book from this Boston printer, with 36pp. of "book type" specimens (examples of fully printed pages of books in various identified typef…aces and sizes). Pp. [37]-71 consist of "job type" specimens, with all sorts of both plain and elaborate type designs, both large and small. The Getchell firm was a family operation, and traded under several names during the second half of the 19th century. This specimen book gives a wonderful overview of their abilities, as well as a sense of the trend in type design during this period. Scarce; the lone speratately listed holding we found in OCLC is retained by the Newberry Library.
