This is the story of Gaine Cannon, MD and his trip into the remote regions of North Carolina in 1953 for a much needed rest. Half a century earlier his father, also a doctor, had traveled on horseback with medicines and instruments in his saddlebags. Finding that very little had changed from the days of his father's medical care, Cannon became inspired to pattern his medical practice after Dr. Albert Schweitzer. He started the Albert Schweitzer Memorial Hospital which was the first truly adequate medical facility for this isolated area. The book contains 221 pages plus 16 pages of b/w photographs by Bruce Roberts. The condition is near fine. There is a signature on the ffl and there are tape marks on the ffl and bfl but the pages are clean and free of all marks, tears and folds. The yellow and gray hard cover is bound in black cloth and is free of marks with the exception of tape marks which are holding the plastic sleeve in place. The DJ is in fine condition, encased in a plastic sleeve. The binding is tight.…
