However, in order really to take advantage of the capabilities of microprocessors, it is not enough to reproduce the behavior of analog (PID) controllers. One needs to implement specific and high-performance model based control techniques developed for computer-controlled systems (techniques that have been extensively tested in practice). In this context identification of a plant dynamic model from data is a fundamental step in the design of the control system. The book takes into account the fact that the association of books with software and on-line material is radically changing the teaching methods of the control discipline. I tre contributi riconsegnano alla comunità scientifica i risultati di un'attenta analisi di materiali documentari conservati nell'Archivio storico diocesano di Catania, che coprono l'arco cronologico dal XII al XVI secolo. Sono così presi in esame alcune testimonianze manoscritte medievali già conosciute, altre credute ormai perdute ed altre ancora del tutto inedite. Inoltre è presa in esame quella che, a buona ragione, può essere considerata archetipo dell'iconografia della santa almeno per il regno di Sicilia, a partire dall'età normanna. Viene, poi, offerto un focus sul quel periodo di "abulia politica" iniziata con la morte di Alfonso il Magnanimo, che vide il prevalere della città di Catania sugli altri due centri maggiori, Palermo e Messina, in lotta per la conquista di una presunta primazia sull'isola. Così Ferdinando de Acuña, vicerè di Sicilia, e la sua consorte si legarono ben bresto al centro etneo e divennero grandi devoti di Agata, realizzando la propria sepoltura nella cappella della santa, nel duomo di Catania.
