El análisis de estas representaciones se enmarca entre dos grupos de teorías de la amistad. Por un lado, una serie de teorías de la amista…d clásica, medieval y renacentistas -como las de Platón, Aristóteles, Cicerón, San Agustín, Rieval, Alberti, Ficino-, apoyan el análisis de la tradición clásica, eclesiástica y humanística de la amicitia desde la que escribe Cervantes. Por otro lado, las representaciones de la amistad en Cervantes, en ocasiones, son tan atípicas de la tradición de la amicitia que han de ser estudiadas a través de los modelos de relación social ilustrados, y por medio de los conceptos del individuo que se forman en los escritos de los filósofos de la Ilustración -Hume, Smith, Kant-. El libro muestra la historia intelectual de la noción de la amicitia en un período en el que empezó a desarrollarse la idea de nación, la lógica de los mercados, las teorías del individuo y los paradigmas familiares que pueblan gran parte de nuestro presente imaginario político. páginas/pasges.
