In his introduction to this book the editor points out that at time of publication over two hundred editions of the Natural history of Selborne have been published but very few of them contained 'The Antiquities of Selborne' which gilbert white intended should be an integral part of his book. the editor, who lived at selborne in a house facing that in which White wrote more than a century and half ago, has included White's poems, many of which deal with Selborne, and has added explanatory notes.
