Softcover. Condizione: Very Good. 2nd rev. ed. An uncommon title. Gitter, whose career spanned more than six decades and ended about five years ago, wrote 12 books, mostly instructional guides for teachers working at Montessori schools. The texts grew out of her work as a consultant for the International and American Montessori societies and as a lecturer at universities across the country as well as in Japan, Indonesia, England and India. The common theme in her speeches and books was the idea that children should learn not by being taught but by discovering for themselves. She often said a teacher shouldn't teach but lead the children to discovery. She promoted the Montessori discipline since the 1920s when she established a private school in her native Vienna, Austria. She learned about this new approach of teaching children from the movement's founder, Maria Montessori, who lectured at the University of Vienna.
