Louis-Robert Antral (13 juillet 1895-1940), fut d'abord l'élève de Cormon puis membre du Comité des Indépendants et de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts puis du Salon de l'Araignée…. Son oeuvre figure dans plusieurs musées. Il évoque le dur univers des femmes incarcérées à la prison St Lazare. "Que sont-elles après tout, des coupables? pour quelques-unes peut-être; des malheureuses, pour toutes oui, assurément". Le récit de Pierre Gobion est ici accompagné de 12 bois gravés-dont 5 en hors-texte, 10 dessins in-texte et une lithographie en frontispice. Tirage limité à 200 exemplaires numérotés.
