Loosely based on David Goodis' 1954 seminal hardboiled novel "Black Friday," a paperback original. A French fugitive heads for Canada and ends up joining a gang of criminals in the midst of kidnapping the mentally-challenged daughter of a rival crimelord. Director Paul Wendkos turned the screenplay into one of the greatest heist films ever made, starring Dan Duryea, Jayne Mansfield, and Martha Vickers.
